My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our first experience with SOS. In no time at all we made friends with the people in our group (soprano). Not being able to read music was not an issue, we learned each part in bite-sized chunks over the weeks and it was amazing how quickly the whole thing came together. The actual “gig” was brilliant ….. we both got a tremendous buzz from it. It was a shame it was “for one night only”. I am really looking forward to the next one.

What can I say? I have enjoyed all three SOS seasons to date – each one being an improvement on the last. To me, a musician of some small experience this is a great learning journey with a wonderful prize at the end. The learning process is designed to create a great team atmosphere and is conducted in a relaxed, informative but structured way such that by the time a performance occurs, everyone is at the same standard and can relax and enjoy the event. The events themselves allow for a great evening for friends and family to enjoy some excellent music as well as the opportunity to see a 40 piece soul choir first hand – something my family has travelled an hour or more to see repeatedly. Finally, just having the chance to learn from Helen and Dave is a reward in itself.

SOS is a great group for anyone who loves to sing whatever their ability, its a fantastic way to meet new people, release the stresses of work and most importantly to have fun!

I love singing, but cannot read music, am not vocally trained in anyway and have never been part of a choir before. But none of that mattered with SOS. I enjoyed every single choir practise (there was lots of laughter, as well as learning lines and tunes) and I loved performing infront of so many people (I didn’t know I had that in me!) SOS was the best thing I was a part of in 2009, it gave me something to enjoy just totally for me (which was very important when I had 3 children all under school age!).

“I joined SOS for the first time in Mar 2009 and was very impressed on many fronts. I love singing and was looking to join a singing group which was fun and lively but which also produced a high quality sound. I found all that with Helen Bolton and SOS. Helen and Dave made the practices so much fun, splitting us into groups and carefully and thoroughly teaching us our own harmony parts, and then coming together to create a fantastic four part harmony for each song. For me that was an electric experience in itself, but the real icing on the cake for me was being able to perform in front of a live audience at a real gig !! What a buzz !. Helen is a great singing teacher and used her skills to tease out the best from all of us and produce something we could be proud of. I would highly recommend SOS to anyone who loves singing and wants to join a friendly, lively group to create an amazing sound, and have lots of fun in the process!”

I joined the SOS group late (several weeks into rehearsals) but this was never a problem. The group had such a buzz about it and everyone made me very welcome, helping me to catch up in no time. There was always time for a laugh in rehearsals which made it a really positive experience. I never once felt “under pressure” to do anything but perform!! The crowd who came to see us on the night were really enthusiastic and I’ve spent the months since then being asked “when is your next gig?” and trying to live down the “you should be on last choir standing” comments!

I am have never sung before in a group and was quite anxious about whether I was good enough but the whole experience was lovely and I would recommend it to anyone. Helen and Dave were great teachers; the whole group was amazingly supportive and friendly. I am definitely going to be there this year!
